Bridge to new beginnings

I’m calling this photo the “bridge to new beginnings”

It was taken by a friend who gets to travel a lot more than me and takes random photos like this one in the hopes that they spark creativity and inspire.

In the case of this photo, inspiration came in the form of some much needed introspection and renewed optimism.

I’m coming to a period of unknown changes in my work environment, structure and potentially my job itself.  Complete and in-depth change is inescapable and can’t really be planned for or anticipated (without losing your mind by playing the ‘what-if?’ game at any rate).

There will be a lot of unknown factors that will get sorted out in time.  However, it’s likely to take a lot of time, perhaps even months.  I keep reminding myself to be patient and to see the potential during this period – if nothing is certain, then anything is possible.

The bridge to new beginnings is my current reminder that moving forward is important and that I should choose to keep taking steps forward rather than stay paralyzed in the present, clinging to the ‘known’.

Every day we make choices.  We choose to worry about stuff.  We choose to say yes or no. We choose to make the first move. We choose to take the first step and then the step after that (and the one after that…)

Change is scary.  And moving towards the ‘unknown’ is even scarier.  But only in moving forward – with calm, deep breaths, eyes open, looking forward, and by placing one foot in front of the other – will we move past the unknown and arrive at that something new and amazing which methinks is hiding right around the corner (or across the bridge).

Take a chance.  Make a choice.  Deep breaths.  We’ll get through this.
